1-1 Executive Development: Our Services

Andrew is a director within a Local Authority. He was newly appointed to the post and had lead responsibility for a range of key initiatives. He had inherited a number of challenging people in his department who were reluctant to embrace further change and different approaches.

It was important to work with someone who was free of the politics of the Authority and who could bring a different perspective.

He worked with a 1-1 Developer who helped him apply alternative strategies that were not simply imposed on those individuals he saw as resistant.

As a result, he developed a more significant, productive and visible contribution to the meetings he led and participated-in.

The individuals we work with face a tremendous variety of demands and requirements, hence our 1-1 services are tailored to meet each person's specific circumstances and priorities. We offer a range of responses based on our experience of what works, matched with what is called-for.

With each client we agree in advance which of the following four options would be best suited to their requirements.


We have clear fee guidelines for our services which depend on your specific requirements and the sector you operate in. As part of our 'sharing the learning' approach we offer discounted rates for members of acevo, for example, and for some smaller Public Purpose Organisations that want to work with more of a Whole Person approach or that are looking for collaborative development.

Knowing when to stop

All the development we offer at Oasis is geared towards maximising the autonomy of the individual. Our aim is not to foster dependency but to allow a person to develop more of who they need to be to fulfil the role and the life they have chosen to lead. For this reason, whilst the 1-1 process may evolve over a period of months, or may at times involve frequent contact depending on requirements, it is essential to know when enough has been done. Time away from the process, for reflection and review, is therefore vital.

For clients undertaking a longer-term development process we strongly recommend a two-month 'review break' after eighteen months of regular sessions, to allow both people to stand back and reflect, and then decide to either re-contract with the same person, start with someone else, or bring the 1-1 Development relationship to a close. This may also include reflection with the commissioning organisation as needed, in light of broader organisational developments, for example.
